🎥Let's begin the Maurice Pialat's cycle with 'We won't grow old together' (Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble). This movie, directed in 1972, marks the first real success of Pialat, at 47 years old. It's a very direct cinema, centered around emotions and dialogues more than on beauty and colors for example.
Because it deals on the subjects of domestic psychological/physical violence, some scenes can be disturbing.
More than that, this movie deals about the subjects of failed relationships, toxic love and the cost of marriage (very contemporary subjects...).
And thanks to generous koha, we'll have food and popcorn!! 🍿
Synopsis:
Jean, a ‘forty-year-old adolescent’ and failed filmmaker, is married to Françoise, a woman his own age with whom he lives, no doubt more out of a need for protection than out of affection. For six years, he has had a mistress, Catherine, who is twenty-five years old and very much in love with him, but whom he treats with little consideration, even though he is attached to her. The film is the story of the death of a couple through clashes, arguments, separations and reunions. Until, tired of it all, Catherine decides to marry a man who is more socially respectable than Jean, with whom she leaves, leaving Jean in despair.
See you on Wednesday !!
